Christmas was wonderful! This is in Las Vegas at the Giving Machine. We bought chickens, medical kits, and more.
Pajama day on the last day of school
Flying to Nola. 2 people barfed. One because of turbulence (me, thank you very much) and one because she wasn't feeling well...
The evening we arrives, we went to see The Chosen Christmas Special. On the way out of the mall, there was a group of teenagers filming each other's dance moves. David was carrying Sybil and started to dance in front of their cameras. There was a lot of giggling, probably because they were amazed by his moves.
One of the most important parts of the trip was visiting Abuelo (almost daily).
During one of the trips, Elijah fell asleep on the couch and Claire tied his shoes together. I also learned about Claire's finger-cracking routine. It lasts forever and pops every joint below her elbows. She tries to recruit other people's joints as much as possible.
And then went to the Roosevelt to see the lights
French Quarter
French Market
Snow balls in December
Gingerbread houses
Visiting the Abuelos old house. This is the first time we had seen it after it was remodeled. We picked persimmons and oranges to bring Abuelo. And inspected the mummified lizard that was in the closet.
Commander's Palace: always a good choice for food.
Elijah ate turtle soup
The girls ordered Bubble Gum Duck on the rocks complete with a rubber duckie
Elijah's first full-body interaction with alcohol:
A big glass of wine was spilled on him.
Because of that, we got a tour of the kitchen and inner workings of the restaurant including the chef's table.
We also got a voodoo tour in Congo square by a vodou high priestess.
"Gumbo" means okra in an African language.
One thing David has wanted to do for a long time, but we usually don't arrive in Nola soon enough is caroling in Jackson square. This was the 79th year this has happened, even after the destruction of Katrina and through Covid.
They announced that the White Christmas was across the street at Cafe du Monde with the powdered sugar on the beignets.
Elijah and Sybil relaxing:
When we started Feliz Navidad, Elijah started backing away from he. He knew what was coming...
David's Mexican laugh. Our friend Luis had been looking for us and quickly found us because of David's iconic laughs.
Seeing how low he could get the flame:
