Daddy Daycare

David is definitely the fun parent.
At a family dinner, I told the kids, "Don't worry, I know your dad is the favorite parent."
Sybil was the only one who refuted this claim.
Give her a few years and she will be converted too.

He is an adventurer, while I'm a home-body.
Especially while I am in clinical, he has stepped up his game.
Here are some pictures of their trip to DC.

Last weekend, the five of them went skiing. Even David! It was the second time he has ever been...
and he came back ready to quit his job so he can go pro.
He clocked himself at 39 miles per hour,
which rounds up to 50 mph,
Which rounds up to 100 mph.
This one wasn't into it as much.
All 5 of them took skiing classes.
Sybil was left on the hillside for a few runs bc she wasn't digging it as much.
She said nobody asked her where her parents were, but some people stared at her.

And yesterday, David took a few on a hike:

Cupid's Crazy Cafe

A few posts ago I said I had gotten so much done that I could breathe...
well hypoxia has set in again.
Which is exactly why I am blogging.
I gave up social media for lent, so this is my other "I don't want to study because I really, really should" activity. The others gave up sugary stuff for Lent, which I find foolish. Sybil gladly gave up lent at her first sight of sugar. I think Elijah doesn't count pop tarts at seminary towards junk...we'll see how this weekend goes for all participants.

On Friday I took Elijah grocery shopping with me, something that hasn't happened in a long time. He convinced mr to buy a plethora of junk food. So, on Sunday we cooked all the cookie dough and cupcakes and delivered them to people for Valentines day. We first visited some our favorite single ladies in the church and then headed to the Udall compound. I figured that if we were delivering goodies to 4 family members, at least one would invite us for dinner. My dad lost his sense of smell, so they were quarantining (Their tests came back negative the next day). Two of the other families were missing, but we scored with the Getschers who invited us to join their...

Cupid's Crazy Cafe!!!

The staff was dressed to a T.
We chose numbers and they served us all kinds of madness.
Of course it turned into sleepovers,
bike rides, and park:

Today: Study, pick up David, drive to Flagstaff
Tomorrow: Sit in the hotel all day in fake clinical while the others are skiing. Drive home.
Sunday: Don't study, but 2 huge school projects are due (I will hopefully complete them on th car ride to Flagstaff or else I won't sleep that night). Also, half of the family is giving talks: David, Claire, Elijah
Monday: On-campus lab all day
Tuesday: E's bday extravaganza.
Wednesday: Fail my cardiovascular test. At least, that's what I'm expecting to happen. Identifying EKGs and memorizing pharmacology hasn't turned out to be my forte.

Promising the moon

David, Claire, and Iris are in DC this weekend for Atticus' baptism. David ask if I wanted him to raid the Capital and bring me a podium or something--too soon David. The second impeachment trial just ended yesterday.

Sybil came home a few minutes ago from an all-day playdate with cousins. Elijah was entirely ecstatic to see her. He tried to get Porfirio to clean his room earlier, but Sybil is more compliant. Now Sybil's favorite song is blasting from his room (Bob Marley's Every Little Thing is Gonna be Alright). His promise to her: candy, she picks the movie tonight, time on his phone, and the moon, I'm sure.

Last night the 4 boy cousins hung out sans parents at Skateland. Good times.

I have gotten so much done in the past day--I feel like I can start breathing again.

Pure Gratitude

Once a year we eat at Burger King.
We picked up food and then headed to the Udall complex so I could shadow Lex and for a family Valentines day extravaganza.
On the way, the kids and I talked about why we go to Burger King and what it means to them.
I know I've posted about this before, but yesterday was the 52nd anniversary of Hector coming to USA.
Burger King was the first place he ate and he said it was the best food he ever had.
Although, I've tested his mother's cooking and I suspect it was his teenaged tastebuds talking more than a reflection on her cooking. And possibly also a reflection on a lack of access to a variety of food in Cuba.
I challenged the kids to say a pure gratitude prayer before the night was done.

First Timer

This is what I got to do this morning.
A friend from church is an EMT and a sucker--just kidding.
It would be a shame to graduate from nursing school without having done one.
Now that I'm a pro, David you're next.
It will be a litmus test of our marriage.

Sabbath

Mark 2:27 The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath.

Last night I had a bit of a stress meltdown.

But today is perfect.

Church, family scriptures, watching Chariots of Fire, the spinach lasagnas are waiting to be put in the oven for family dinner.

No nursing school. None.

I have 2 favorite scriptures this week:

D&C 11:20 Behold, this is your work, to keep my commandments, yea, with all your might, mind and strength.

My work. My primary job should be to keep the commandments. If I had a job review right now, how would it go? Probably not the best. I need to be more spiritually connected during the week.

D&C 10:5 Pray always, that you may come off conqueror

I will conquer this week!

Sunday chillaxin in a bed of clovers

Story of the week:
Last Sunday I was talking to a friend after church. She is from Columbia so we were speaking in Spanish. She said she liked my mask and asked me where I got it.
Me: "En el suelo."
Her: "Venezuela?"

Yes, I am fancy enough to import my specially masks from South America.

When I explained to her that I had actually picked it up off the ground at the park at 4:30am, she laughed out loud for quite some time.

General Conferece

General Conference weekend! We picked up Elijah on Saturday night and then headed to the Provo Creamery. Fortunately for us, Elijah's fr...
