Fifth Stop: Alabama

Went through....
to get to ....
We got a house on Dauphin Island and the whole Garcia clan reunited.
30 people
Fort Gaines

David and Brian having a Titanic moment:

Racing down the tunnels

Sybil larked several people to carry her and finally found the weak link.
Sara is too good:

We like stopping at random cemeteries to find headstones with our birthdays and remind us: YOLO
Most of the time we just hung out at the walking-distance beach.
The trio:
We got a 4-plane tribute with wiggling wings to say, "Hello."
The house we rented came with bikes, kayaks, and floaty toys
Beach surfing
We spent about 7 hours on the beach on day 2.
As soon as Calvin and Atticus got to the beach, Elijah gave hugs, drew an X on the beach, and told them there was treasure that needed to be dug up. That boy is so good with his little cousins.
Soul Surfer may not have been the best movie to watch right before we went other beach. On the way home, Sybil watched it and put the shark attack on repeat.
Chillin at the house
The house also had a private dock where the kids miraculously caught fish and a few pieces of trash.

All 17 grandkids

Third and Fourth Stops

Test
Is this child:
a) awake
b) asleep
c) dead
Testing tip: When you don't know the answer, always choose "C."
In Houston, we stayed with A&A.
We couldn't see B&E since they had been exposed to Covid
and hadn't received their negative test results yet.
One of my favorite things is to let the kids play outside with water, sticks, mud, rocks, and other kids. Ashley and I relaxed in the shade while the kids played at Pundt Park.
David and Ashley took the kids ice skating at the Galleria while Andrew worked and I got some homework done.
There was also some raucous bouncing going on:

Ashley provided hair dying
The night before we headed out, B&E got their negative test results. We had an awesome adult dinner with the 3 couples and Stephanie (our long-time Nola friend) while the 13 kids chilled lord-of-the-flies style.

It was good to finally see the Covid-free ones:
Fourth Stop:
First stop in LA: Dragos
Charbroiled oysters, slighter tacos, shrimp and grits, crawfish, boudin and shrimp
+ awesome company
Iris was appropriately dressed in her Nola shirt while eating her alligator nuggets
Elijah and Sara had alligator tacos
Of course the second stop was Sal's.
David' tried a new flavor: pink squirrel, of course with extra condensed milk on top.
And the third stop was the Abuelos.
On the car ride to the abuelos' house, Iris, remarked, "Wait, the abuelos hate Mexicans."
Sara said, "Where should I say I'm from?"
But it all worked out well. Abuela apologized and there is definitely mutual love now.
After we all sat down in their house, Abuelo asked why we were missing a child. We couldn't understand what he was talking about and finally realized that he didn't recognize Iris because she had green hair.
This is a picture of the kiss line.
There is always a kiss line when we enter and exit their house.

Sybil with Pops on Fathers' Day.
"Common Pops, let's go play!"
 He obliged.
Sybil with David on Fathers' day.
Abbi helped Elijah join the hair-dying trend. But it was Sunday and they didn't have any dye on hand. Elijah created dye out of streamers and conditioner. It didn't last long and neither did the other iterations with legit dye that they tried a few days later. That didn't stop him from creating a Memoji of himself with blue hair.
Hair dying is contagious.
The other cousins had arrived and more of them got in on the action.
These three became known as the "trio," an exclusive club, to the chagrin of the younger girl cousins.
Daily abuelos visits: Polito was feeling the love
We all went to a bounce place. This was before the mask requirement was put in place,
but they did take our temperatures before entering.
Pictures from a downtown outing.
I skipped because I was doing homework again.

They found a new friend:

Covid is marching closer. At the beginning there was fear and uncertainty surrounding the pandemic. The cloud started to clear. Now it's back. Last week I bought extra masks which are more accessible now, being sold in many stores. We are now in Metairie, where last week they announced all businesses had to require patrons to wear masks.
We hear of the disease touching more and more loved ones.
Announcements are begin made about the return to school, but that's still murky too. At this point, it looks like they will return to the online system and it will definitely be going in the winter when another spike is expected to occur since that is flu season. I'm sure Elijah will be happy that his first year in seminary won't be in the wee hours of the morning, especially since the teenager has become nocturnal.

General Conferece

General Conference weekend! We picked up Elijah on Saturday night and then headed to the Provo Creamery. Fortunately for us, Elijah's fr...
